No nukes, please. We're organic.
While Canada is mending fences across the Pacific, North Korea is pulling some very un-neighborly behavior in that part of the world.
Ignoring threats from its historic enemy, Japan, and its staunchest ally, China, Kim Jong Il's Stalinist gulag has just proclaimed its first successful nuclear bomb test.
That's odd. The North Koreans have been threatening their neighbors with nuclear weapons for years. Were they lying then, or lying now? It's still unclear at this point whether they just blew up a big tanker of dynamite underground.
In any case, given the uncertainty, I'm certain my South Korean students are glad they're in the nuclear-weapons-free zone of Vancouver right now. My heart goes out to them and their families. The next couple of days are going to be pretty tense in that part of the world.
I've re-posted my short primer on North Korea's totalitarian regime above to help people understand what kind of psycho regime the world is dealing with. You can also view it directly on YouTube here.
