Who knew the king of Spain had it in him? (For that matter, how many of us were even aware that Spain still had a king?)
King Juan Carlos at an international conference of Latin leaders from around the world, speaking in front of hundreds of cameras to Venezuelan President/demagogue Hugo Chavez: “Why don’t you just SHUT UP!?”
Members of the Vancouver Bolivarian Society are no doubt choking on their bile somewhere in a dark basement.
This incident comes on the heels of the heckling of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at Columbia University just a month back. The university’s president introduced the featured speaker appropriately enough with the observation that “you exhibit all the signs of a petty and cruel dictator.”
Republic of East Vancouver columnist Michael Nenonen is right about Ahmadinejad, that the Iranian leader’s “views are blatantly misogynistic and homophobic and he’s a bit of a buffoon, but he doesn’t deserve to be demonized”… but only insofar as Ahmadinejad has done such a good job of turning the world against his country that demonizing him would be redundant.
Nice to see that honorable people are finally telling the jerks of the world exactly what the rest of us are thinking.
One that note, now that the major part of the overhaul for Currents is now complete, one Vancouver writer is now free to go back to telling the jerks of the world – and the pleasant majority as well – exactly what he is thinking.
