Currents Vlog Episode 2: Crowdsourcing

I recently had the opportunity to hear Vancouver-based social media evangelist and writer Monica Hamburg give a presentation on crowdsourcing. For social media mavens (and we’ve got quiiiiiiite a few right here in Vancouver), crowdsourcing can be an important part of their toolkit. For businesses, it’s a way of harnessing the wisdom of crowds for fun and profit. For non-profits, it’s a way of building awareness and organizational strength. But what exactly is crowdsourcing and how do I get it to work?

    Hi Jonathan,

    Thanks so much for this. It was really fun to talk with you! And I love the way you’ve done this video!

    I have way too much information in my head on this topic – oh those painful pauses where I sort through stuff – well, I’m working on that ;)

    I just want to clarify a point I made that might be misconstrued or mis-articulated (and perhaps later some more points…) Outsourcing didn’t begin Crowdsourcing – I just meant that the terms are similar and that might have been the “root” of the term. Crowdsourcing is closer to Outsourcing, but also differs in many respects (who gets paid, how the contributions are valued). Jeff Howe is tracing the history of Crowdsourcing at http://www.crowdsourcing.typepad.com/

    I *absolutely* loved this vlog. I think you’ve done a great job of bringing interesting interviewees, the music is great, and the questions and answers are very enticing and very clearly spoken. I really enjoyed it! Keep the vlogging up! :)

    And of course, it’s always great to hear Monica Hamburg…. and I second the gushing – you *are* great!
