Globe&Post: Solidarity With Afghanistan

Published by at 11:31 pm under Uncategorized

“There was a suicide bombing this morning outside the Indian Embassy and the road to the kite stores was closed.” So much for my friend’s efforts to gather some cultural souvenirs our group‘s community outreach efforts before her latest stint as a human rights worker in Afghanistan ends.

I’ve actually lost count of how many times she’s been over there. She’s doing good work to help the country rebuild its civil society after decades of incessant warfare. The Taliban’s horrific attacks don’t make it easy for the locals who are mostly just trying to survive.

I don’t suppose the latest atrocity from the Taliban will change the minds of their boosters on Canada’s west coast (and they know who they are), who against all facts and logic keep labeling the Taliban a resistance movement.

Borrowing a bit from their rhetoric, this is the chant I’d like to see at the next antiwar rally in Vancouver:

Pakistan out of Afghanistan!
Iran out of Afghanistan!
Taliban out now!
International solidarity with the people of Afghanistan!

But it ain’t “cool” to have a view different from the Socialist Herd! It’s much simpler and safer, living here on Canada’s Left Coast, to join the anti-American, anti-Free Market, anti-Capitalism choir. Yet ask any of these “Kool Kids” for a cogent argument to support their views and all you get are grasshoppers chirping in the night.

Good to know I’m not a lone voice out here. Now I know there are at least 3 of us!!

A lot more than just three, Robert! We’ve got hundreds of supporters across Canada for the Canada-Afghanistan Solidarity Committee, many on the west coast. There are plenty of kindred spirits amongst us. Cheers.

Well, I just don’t understand the crush some people have with “insurgents”. I believe that an important part of the blame must be placed on MSM but not only. The behaviour of these groups is so brutal that I could never support them, whatever the MSM are telling the public about them. The imposition of Sharia Law wherever they are, is something MSM do not speak often about. But it’s happening right now, whether they are in Afghanistan or in Pakistan.
