Stories of the Northwest Pacific Coast

Published by at 9:04 am under First Nations,Photos

The totem poles in Vancouver’s Stanley Park tell the stories of the Northwest Coast First Nations. You can read the written interpretations of these stories here. I happened by this spot recently and took some images to remember it by.

The totems are magnificent. I only wish our state of multicultural values was mature enough to approach the other, much darker side of West Coast Aboriginal history and we could discuss the centuries of Slave Trade that was a plank in the historical economies.

We are still locked into the post colonial blame the new guys for all the troubles we have era. When we finally get beyond this stage, we can start to address the much deeper historical injustices.
