Randy is right, but there are some facts that I like to mention.
I foundinteresting facts anout social politics of our government.
The two levels of government agreed to develop housing on 14 city-owned sites last year. In March, the province announced that it was investing $170 million in six of the sites, creating 569 units for the homeless.
So let's see, if this courageous plan is going to be true.
Take care,
Julie

Community debate very often is simply a mirage. A similar situation in North Van a few years ago caused some long tern cynicism in our neighbourhood. The Muni had a lock on considerable gov't funding which needed to be disseminated before the fiscal year ending March.
City Council (forced to later admit to this publicly) without any public or taxpayer consultation or any kind of heads up, in-camera approved purchasing a venue for housing for well over $2M.

All the community meetings, signed petitions, door knocking, promises, prior to any finalizations....was simply a waste of everyones time. The agenda was already set and absolutely all of our input was window dressing.

Now of course, "downtowners" fully populate the facility although the Lookout Society promised and assured us all that residents would ALL be from the North Shore, because there was that much need here on the North Shore. The neighbourhood has surely degraded badly and we all feel lied to and used, to achieve an agenda that was preset from the beginning. So many of us will never get involved again after being treated like children.
