He said he and his family were bombed trying to escape by Saddam and then bombed by Turkey for trying to enter. I'm so glad Canada took them in. The tales she has told me about what the Turks did to her ancestors and how her mother's side of the family were slaughtered by the Turks will make your hair stand on end. The Turks would come in the dead of night and just whisk away dozens of families from a given area and before daylight there would be a convoy of carts and such of Turks looting the houses from where the Armenians were taken. My neighbour has a few hand-stitched coasters which belonged to her great-grandmother whose house was looted and the few coasters happened to fall off the cart being towed away by some Turk barbarian. My neighbour's mother who was a toddler at that time, was sent out from a hiding place to collect the fallen pieces after the carts disappeared from view.
