Bad Omen

Published by at 3:18 pm under Vancouver

I got attacked by a bunch of crows the other day while wandering in my neighborhood in the heart of Vancouver. It was like out of The Birds or something. Really bizarre.

Apparently, I wasn’t the only one so roughly treated by my dark-winged neighbors. I found this sign soon after my own weird experience:
Vancouver life

Weird stuff happening. Is this a bad omen of things to come? Might be time to stock up on emergency kits.

Crows attack when they are building their nests or when they have laid their eggs. If that is the case, it will take more than 3 months for the zone to become crow free.
Hope that clears up any superstitions you had.

They must have heard that they were a front-runner for the position of Canada’s national bird. It sounds like voter intimidation to me.

I’ve been dive-bombed by crows dozens of times.
Hmmm. Maybe that is a bad omen?!!

The worst spot was near my former workplace in central Burnaby – where up to 10,000 crows come to roost every night.

    Here they are in action:

You can see it live, along the Grandview cut about 20 minutes before sunset every night.

And a story to go with it:

BTW – The northwest crow, which is the most common corvid in BC, is its own distinct species. I’ve also seen video of crows working with tools to get food. (Sorry, no link for that, but it was very cool to watch!)
