If The Green Party Gets Into The Debate

Published by at 10:29 pm under Canada, politics

Then logically, all of these other registered Canadian political parties that haven’t won a single federal riding ought to be included in the debate, too:

Animal Alliance Environment Voters Party of Canada
Canadian Action Party
Christian Heritage Party of Canada
Communist Party of Canada
First Peoples National Party of Canada
Libertarian Party of Canada
Marijuana Party
Marxist-Leninist Party of Canada
People’s Political Power Party of Canada
Pirate Party of Canada
Progressive Canadian Party
Rhinoceros Party
United Party of Canada
Western Block Party

You are kidding right? I find it funny that you use the word “logically” and then spew nonsense. You do understand that there are both quantitative and qualitative differences between the Green party and all of those other parties you mentioned.

First, the Greens meet the requirements for expense reimbursements and the quarterly allowance. Is it not a little odd that they qualify for millions of dollars (combining allowance, tax credits, reimbursements, etc.) from the government and yet they are not qualified to be part of the debate?

Second, they have the support of 7% of the population and a million voters. That it roughly 5 times as much support as ALL of the “other” parties combined.

Third, and this is a side note, the lack of regulation is pathetic. A neutral third party /independent body should make the rules. We already have election financing rules, third party advertising rules, etc. With the leader’s debate being considered one of the most important elements of the campaign, it is an injustice that it is dealt with in a haphazard way.

    Spew! Spew!

Political parties don’t gain legitimacy by how much money they rake in from citizens. That’s how you get and maintain power in Libya, not Canada.

If they want to be part of a televised debate for a federal election, it’s reasonable that the broadcaster require that they have elected at least one MP.

That’s just my take. As far as I understand, all of the major political parties have endorsed the Greens’ presence at the debate.
